Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Gyeonggi governor, on the 25th criticized Park Geun-hye, saying, "As the main figure behind the state capture, a lifetime of apologizing to the people would not be enough, yet she is roaming around the campaign trail."
At a supreme campaign committee meeting that day, candidate Choo said of former President Park joining to support a People Power Party candidate's campaign, "It is something that must not be tolerated."
Aiming at Choo Kyung-ho, the Daegu mayoral candidate backed by Park, she sharpened her criticism, saying he is "a candidate who, as a suspect, faces strong suspicions of collaborating with the forces that staged the 12·3 coup and shattered constitutional order." She went on, "Park Geun-hye goes around openly smiling in front of the people as she supports such a candidate."
Choo said, "This election is to choose local workers and at the same time to complete the normalization of the Republic of Korea," adding, "We will win without fail as Team Democratic Party."
On the 23rd, Park visited Chilseong Market in Daegu to support Choo Kyung-ho's stump speech, and that day held a roundtable at the campaign office of People Power Party Daejeon mayoral candidate Lee Jang-woo, then staged a support rally for Chungcheongnam-do governor candidate Kim Tae-heum at Sanseong Market in Gongju, South Chungcheong.
This is the first time Park has appeared on the campaign trail since her impeachment in 2017.
