The Democratic Party of Korea asked candidate Kim Yong-nam, who is running in the Pyeongtaek B by-election for the National Assembly in Gyeonggi, to explain allegations that he operated a "borrowed-name lending company." As for the Rebuilding Korea Party's call for the Democratic Party of Korea to conduct an ethics probe, it drew a line, saying, "We will handle our party's affairs ourselves."
Cho Seung-rae, secretary-general of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at a press briefing held at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 24th regarding the Rebuilding Korea Party's demand for an ethics probe into candidate Kim, "Why are they telling another party what to do," adding, "The Democratic Party of Korea has never criticized the Rebuilding Korea Party or candidate Cho Kuk."
He continued, "Officials of the Rebuilding Korea Party pour out negativity and criticism of candidate Kim every time they open their mouths. There is a line of propriety among comrades who have crossed the firing line of the revolution of light," adding, "Party members are also extremely angry at the behavior the Rebuilding Korea Party is showing."
Cho also said, "I asked the candidate that it would be good to actively explain to the media and citizens regarding the lending allegations," adding, "I would like to hear the explanation and together assess whether it is appropriate."
He went on, "I understand that candidate Kim will offer an explanation this evening or tomorrow, including matters related to his complicated family situation," adding, "At the party level, we basically verified based on the asset disclosure and the materials submitted at the time of filing."
