The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 23rd that the number of voters for the 9th nationwide local elections to be held on the 3rd of next month is 44,649,908.
Compared with the 8th nationwide local elections in June 2022, the number increased by 346,459, and compared with the 21st presidential election in June last year, it rose by 258,037.
Of the voters, 44,409,225 are Korean nationals. There are 89,151 overseas Koreans and 151,532 foreigners. The number of foreign voters increased 3.13 times compared with the 6th nationwide local elections in 2014 (48,248).
By gender, there are 22,095,972 men (49.49%) and 22,553,936 women (50.51%).
By age, those in their 50s are the largest group at 8,636,772 (19.34%). They are followed by ▲ those in their 60s, 8,008,122 (17.94%) ▲ those in their 40s, 7,544,332 (16.90%) ▲ those 70 and older, 7,225,683 (16.18%) ▲ those in their 30s, 6,709,201 (15.03%) ▲ those in their 20s, 5,570,794 (12.48%) ▲ those in their teens, 955,004 (2.14%).
By region, Gyeonggi has the most at 11,878,997 (26.60%), followed by Seoul with 8,319,134 (18.63%) and Busan with 2,857,335 (6.40%). The fewest voters are in Sejong, with 309,134 (0.69%).
The number of voters in the 14 constituencies holding National Assembly by-elections is 2,631,866. Of these, 2,263,883 are Korean nationals and 3,238 are overseas Koreans. Foreigners do not have the right to vote in the presidential and general elections.
The constituency with the most voters is Dalseong in Daegu (252,539), and the constituency with the fewest is Buk-gap in Busan (129,192). The number of voters in Dalseong in Daegu is 1.95 times that of Buk-gap in Busan.
Voters can check their voter registry number and the location of their polling place through the city, county and district office websites or the notice sent by mail. Voting can be done at early voting sites on the 29th–30th of this month and at designated polling places on the 3rd of next month.
