Applications for the government's second round of high oil price relief payments neared 76% just five days after payouts began.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 23rd, as of midnight the previous night, a total of 24,814,000 people had applied for the second round of high oil price relief payments, with an application rate of 75.9%. The amount to be paid is 3.2996 trillion won.
The second round of payments, which began accepting applications on the 18th, is being provided to the bottom 70% of earners. During the second application period, those who could not apply for the first round of payments can also apply.
The total cumulative number of applicants for the first and second rounds combined was tallied at 27,888,822. This is 77.62% of the total 35,929,596 eligible recipients, and the cumulative payment amount is 5.0455 trillion won.
For the first round of payments, which targeted basic livelihood security recipients, the near-poor, and single-parent families, 3,075,000 people applied. The application rate is 95.2%, and the amount to be paid is 1.7459 trillion won.
For the combined first and second rounds, the most common method of receiving payments was credit/debit cards, with 19,380,786 recipients. Next were local love gift certificates (mobile/card type) with 4,479,338 recipients, prepaid cards with 3,555,671 recipients, and local love gift certificates (paper type) with 473,027 recipients.
By region, Sejong had the highest cumulative application rate at 80.97%. It was followed by Daejeon at 80.42%, Gwangju at 80.15%, and Busan at 80.13%. Jeju was the lowest at 74.39%.
