Chong Won-o, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, again said that work should be paused and supplemented in response to the "GTX-A Samsung Station section rebar omission" situation.
On the 23rd, after attending the 17th anniversary memorial for former President Roh Moo-hyun in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Chong met with reporters and, asked about a "suspension of the GTX-A Samsung Station construction," said, "Did I say I would suspend the construction?" and added, "I said it should be paused temporarily for reinforcement."
Chong went on, saying, "If construction keeps going like this, what will you do later?" and "It is only natural to temporarily halt the parts of the project that had problems."
He also said, "They are twisting it into a 'suspension.' Candidate Oh Se-hoon really needs to be honest," adding, "Inflating it to sound like it will be suspended or canceled is not honest." He then said to Oh, "I hope you go to Samsung Station and take a look."
Earlier, on the 21st, Chong appeared on a radio program and, regarding suspicions of missing rebar in the GTX-A Samsung Station section construction, said, "Even if it is delayed a bit, if it is not safe, isn't it a castle built on sand?" and "I think it should be stopped for now."
In response, Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's candidate for Seoul mayor, wrote on his Facebook page, "After the report of the omission, the Seoul Metropolitan Government made a judgment on whether to proceed with construction following scientific and objective technical reviews, and concluded that proceeding with construction while taking reinforcement measures would not pose safety problems," criticizing Chong by saying, "Another suspension? True to form for a 'Park Won-soon Season 2' candidate."
