Chong Won-o, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Seoul mayor, on the second day of the official campaign swung through Gangbuk, including Nowon and Jungnang, to win over real estate voters. He also announced livelihood economy pledges tailored to each district.
On the morning of the 21st, candidate Chong visited the plaza at Myeonmok Station in Jungnang District, Seoul, and climbed onto a campaign truck with Seo Young-kyo, a lawmaker from the same party, and the Jungnang District chief candidate Ryu Kyung-gi.
Chong said, "There are many redevelopment, reconstruction, and Moa Town initiative areas in Jungnang," adding, "Oh Se-hoon did not properly move them forward when he was mayor, but if I become mayor, I will work with the district chief to speed things up."
He went on, "For small-scale development plans with fewer than 500 households, I will delegate authority to district chiefs so districts can do them quickly and safely," and "I will raise the current standard construction cost benchmark to 80% of the basic construction cost for purchases."
Chong also promised, "We will issue 100 billion won worth of Jungnang Love gift certificates so citizens can buy goods at a 10% discount."
At about 1:30 p.m., Chong continued his stump speech in Nowon District, Seoul. He said, "Nowon is a good place to live, but there are many unresolved issues such as transportation," and pledged ▲early opening of the Dongbuk Line ▲early opening of the undergrounded Dongbu arterial road ▲GTX-C and SRT to stop at Chang-dong Station ▲expansion work upstream on Dangyeon Stream ▲Kwangwoon University, among others.
He added, "Lawmaker Kim Sung-hwan and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik worked in Nowon to push a bioindustry belt in Chang-dong," and said, "At City Hall, we will push hard so corporations can move in more quickly."
At the Nowon rally, 25 representatives of reconstruction promotion and preparation committees from Sanggye-dong, Junggye-dong, Hagye-dong, and Wolgye-dong attended. After finishing that schedule, he will head to Jung District, Seoul, to hold a roundtable on redevelopment, reconstruction, and remodeling.
Chong said, "Right now in Seoul, every reconstruction and redevelopment project, from small to large, must pass through City Hall, so all projects are stuck in front of City Hall like a bottleneck," adding, "We will speed things up."
At 5 p.m., he went to Jung District, Seoul, and, with Democratic Party lawmaker Park Sung-joon and Jung District chief candidate Lee Dong-hyun, held a "Jung District redevelopment, reconstruction, and remodeling roundtable" to hear residents' grievances.
At the ensuing mayoral rally, Jung District chief candidate Lee Dong-hyun shouted, "We will create Jung-Ma-Yong-Seong, not Ma-Yong-Seong (Mapo, Yongsan, Seongsu)." Chong responded, "Once you become district chief, I will focus on advancing Jung District."
