On the 21st, Democratic Party of Korea Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o wrapped up his first day of campaigning in Gangnam District, Seoul, and said, "We will set things right through tailored education and by pushing ahead quickly with reconstruction and redevelopment."
When asked about "impressions after campaigning straight for 19 hours from midnight to 6 p.m. today," Chong said in a hoarse voice, "We're just getting started," and added, "Meeting citizens makes it feel real and I can feel the energy." He went on to say, "I also strongly feel the wishes and expectations of citizens."
That day, Chong moved around Gwangjin, Mapo, Seongdong, Gangnam and Seocho districts in Seoul to meet citizens. At 6 p.m., the evening rush hour, he headed to Gangnam Square near Gangnam Station for an intensive rally. He said, "Gangnam residents tell me, 'I don't remember what Mayor Oh Se-hoon did over 10 years.'"
At the rally site, Chong promised, "We will ensure there are no setbacks for the Apgujeong, Daechi, Gaepo, Eunma, Mido, Seonkyung, Useong and Ssangyong reconstruction complexes, and instead help them proceed more quickly, safely and reliably."
He continued, "In Seongdong District, we carried out more than 90% of our pledges over 12 years," adding, "With the same capability shown in Seongdong, we will steadily and decisively push forward residential supply through redevelopment and reconstruction in Seoul and in Gangnam."
Chong raised his voice and said, "We will make Seoul not a city where the mayor does what the mayor wants, but a city where the mayor does what citizens want."
After the rally, asked about a "surefire strategy to win over voters in the four Gangnam districts," he said, "We will craft tailored pledges that residents of the four Gangnam districts prefer," and added, "We will also actively adopt proposals for each district made by district head candidates and turn them into policy."
Chong also said, "Since there are many reconstruction projects in (Gangnam), we will provide support for reconstruction and redevelopment that is safer, sturdier and quicker."
