People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon proposed a single-topic debate to Democratic Party of Korea Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o over the issue of the "GTX rebar omission." Oh urged Chong not to hide behind President Lee Jae-myung and to come out and debate directly.
On the 21st, Oh wrote on Facebook, "Since even the president has stepped in and started a government-orchestrated election, candidate Chong Won-o should stop hiding and come forward to debate directly."
This followed chief presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung saying at a briefing that "President Lee Jae-myung ordered the relevant ministries to conduct a strict fact-finding and thorough safety inspection regarding the rebar omission incident in the GTX-A Samsung Station section."
Oh added, "As candidates for Seoul mayor, exchanging views and arguments over whether to suspend construction is a natural duty for the citizens waiting for the line to open."
He continued, "To become the mayor of a global city like Seoul, you cannot act like a child hiding behind mom and dad," adding, "I will wait for Chong's answer."
Oh and Chong have been trading barbs since the 16th over the rebar omission issue in the GTX-A Samsung Station section. Chong's camp claims Oh covered up shoddy construction, while Oh's side countered that from December last year to March this year Hyundai Engineering & Construction and the supervision team blocked safety problems through 19 inspections and meetings.
