Jung Chung-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea visited Seoul's Dongjak District on the morning of the 21st, when the official campaign kicked off, to support fellow party member Ryu Sam-young, the Dongjak district chief candidate. After touring the Seoul metropolitan area that day, Jung is expected to head to the Chungcheong region in the afternoon to win swing voters in the central area.
Jung held a stump speech near Jangseungbaegi Station in Dongjak District, Seoul, on the morning of the day to support Ryu Sam-young, the Dongjak district chief candidate. Dongjak is the area where Park Il-ha, who recently left the People Power Party for the Reform Party, served as district chief.
Jung said, "Entrust Seoul to Chong Won-o and Dongjak to Ryu Sam-young. We will build a local government that works well like President Lee Jae-myung," adding, "If you make Ryu Sam-young the district chief, I will ensure everything requested of the party is fully supported. Anti-state forces, stop in Dongjak; Ryu Sam-young, Dongjak district chief, let's go."
Ryu said, "If you just help, I will develop the station area and turn Dongjak into a hot place," adding, "I will wipe out the remnants of insurrection and recapture the Dongjak district office. I, Ryu Sam-young, will lead the Democratic Party's victory."
Afterward, Jung will support Gyeonggi Gov. Choo Mi-ae around Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. In particular, in the afternoon, Jung will back Park Soo-hyun, the South Chungcheong governor candidate, in Gongju, South Chungcheong; Heo Tae-jung, the Daejeon mayoral candidate, in Daejeon; and Jang Gi-soo, the Cheonan mayoral candidate, in Cheonan, South Chungcheong.
The Chungcheong region has long been called a "casting vote" area in past elections. Because it has a large bloc of unaffiliated voters, the outcome there could affect the national landscape. Jang Dong-hyeok of the People Power Party will also visit Daejeon, Gongju in South Chungcheong, and Asan in South Chungcheong in turn on the day, entering the central-region showdown.
