Jung Chung-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 17th began a two-day itinerary in Honam.
As the first stop of the day, Jung visited Nabwe Cathedral in Iksan, Jeonbuk, and after attending Mass told reporters, "It is good for Jeonbuk's development when the Democratic Party of Korea's metropolitan mayors and basic local government chiefs are elected and mesh like gears."
At 10 a.m. that day, Jung attended Mass at Nabwe Cathedral in Iksan, Jeonbuk. After Mass, Jung met with Lee Won-taek, the Jeonbuk State governor candidate, in front of Nabwe Cathedral for a commemorative photo.
Jung said, "As the chief standing co-chair of the nationwide campaign committee, there is no candidate who is not important," adding, "For our candidates' victories, for a win in the June 3 local elections, and to support the Lee Jae-myung administration, I will do my best to visit more places and meet more people."
Later, meeting with reporters, Jung said, "It is efficient in every matter when the Democratic Party of Korea moves as one team," adding, "Naturally, the Jeonbuk governor should be from the Democratic Party of Korea, and so should the metropolitan and basic council members." He added, "If even one of them is not from the Democratic Party of Korea, there will be inconvenience in working."
He went on, "It is good for Jeonbuk's development when the Democratic Party of Korea's metropolitan mayors and basic local government chiefs mesh like gears," adding, "Only then will Hyundai Motor's 9 trillion won investment in the Saemangeum development proceed without a hitch."
He also said, "Since Kim Eui-gyeom has been strategically nominated in Gunsan, the Democratic Party of Korea, which enjoys strong support from Lee Won-taek, the Jeonbuk governor candidate, as well as the Gunsan and Iksan mayors and Jeonbuk residents, should take on that task," adding, "For the slogan 'Jeonbuk running again, Jeonbuk rising again, Jump Up Jeonbuk' to come true, the government and ruling party must lead."
In the Jeonbuk governor race, Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Won-taek is in a close contest with Kim Kwan-young, who was expelled from the Democratic Party of Korea over a "proxy driving fee payment" controversy and is running as an independent.
Jung is scheduled to attend the campaign office opening for Park Ji-won, a National Assembly candidate for Gunsan, Gimje and Buan in Jeonbuk, and the launch ceremony of the Democratic Party of Korea's Jeonbuk State Lee Won-taek election committee to help with the campaign.
