Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo criticized the People Power Party as "a burden on the people" and said a new, authentic conservatism needs to emerge.
On the 17th, on the online community "Dream of Youth," which Hong opened while serving as a lawmaker in the 21st National Assembly, a supporter posted "a new party together with the people," saying, "If only you move, many people will join," to which Hong said, "A group that has lost its conservative identity must now disappear."
He then said, "The current PPP has become a burden on the people and is a group pursuing private interests, not the national interest," adding, "Authentic conservatism must newly emerge."
Former Mayor Hong Joon-pyo has recently continued remarks indicating support for the Democratic Party of Korea. On the 16th, on the YouTube channel "TV Hongka Cola," Hong mentioned the Daegu-North Gyeongsang election landscape and said, "A Kim Boo-kyum wind is blowing in Daegu."
He added, "This Daegu mayoral election will be about choosing someone who will bring the TK New Airport to fruition and see it through to completion."
On Facebook, he also made remarks urging restraint from negative campaigning aimed at candidate Chong Won-o. Hong said, "The temptation of negative campaigning shakes the race, but the person who is destined to win will win in the end," adding, "Stop the negative disputes that leave post-election aftereffects and engage in a policy battle."
