A total of 7,829 people have completed candidate registration for the 9th local elections and the National Assembly by-elections to be held on June 3. The average competition rate was 1.8 to 1, the same as the local elections four years ago, which recorded the lowest rate on record.
The National Election Commission announced on the 16th the results of receiving, over two days through the 15th, candidate registrations for metropolitan mayors and governors, basic-level mayors and county chiefs, metropolitan council members, basic council members, proportional metropolitan council members, proportional basic council members, superintendents of education, and National Assembly members. The total number of registered candidates is 7,829.
In this election, a total of 4,241 people will be elected, including ◇ 16 metropolitan mayors and governors ◇ 227 basic-level mayors and county chiefs ◇ 933 metropolitan council members (including proportional) ◇ 3,035 basic council members (including proportional) ◇ 16 superintendents of education ◇ 14 National Assembly members.
Fifty-four people registered for the metropolitan mayor and governor races, for a competition rate of 3.4 to 1. For basic-level mayor and county chief races, 585 registered, for 2.6 to 1; for metropolitan council members, 1,657 registered, for 2.1 to 1. Also, basic council members had 4,402 registrants, 1.7 to 1; proportional metropolitan council members, 354, 2.7 to 1; proportional basic council members, 672, 1.7 to 1. For superintendents of education, 58 candidates registered, for a competition rate of 3.6 to 1.
Those who completed registration will begin official campaigning on the 21st. The voter list will be finalized on the 22nd, and by the 24th, election brochures, notices, and voting guides will be sent out.
