Chun Jae-soo, the Democratic Party of Korea's Busan mayoral candidate, said on the 15th that Park Heong-joon, the People Power Party's Busan mayoral candidate, should explain how he came to appear on a YouTube channel that caused public controversy in the past for disparaging remarks about people with disabilities, saying, "He must disclose by what circumstances he appeared on a YouTube channel that stirred social controversy."
On the afternoon of the same day, Kwon Ji-woong, standing co-chairperson of Chun Jae-soo's election committee, held a press conference at the campaign office and said, "Park on the previous day conducted a live broadcast at his camp with a BJ who became controversial for disparaging remarks about people with disabilities and far-right outbursts," and stated accordingly.
Kwon said, "The BJ in question is a person who in the past hurled outrageous remarks mocking disability at a People Power Party lawmaker and told bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, 'How is this any different from selling corpses,'" adding, "In Nov. 2025, this person was even accused of violating the Act on the Prohibition of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and of insult."
He continued, "Yet Park did a broadcast together with that BJ at his own camp. Even as profanity and hate speech were exchanged during the broadcast, it continued," and pointed out, "At the very beginning and the end of the video, he even called the BJ a 'great person' and expressed thanks, saying it was an 'honor.'"
He added, "In this broadcast as well, the YouTuber used ideologically disparaging remarks toward viewers who disagreed and expressions such as 'oxygen is wasted.'"
Kwon said, "The camp explained it as 'arranged by some fans,' but that does not add up," and added, "In the broadcast, the host said this broadcast was 'done at the request of an aide.'"
He went on, "A question for Park," urging, "Did you know that the YouTuber in question has a record of causing social controversy? If you did not, on whose review was this schedule carried out?" and called on him to explain how the appearance came about.
In response, Park's camp issued an apology. Spokesperson Seo Ji-yeon said that day, "We understand that some of the candidate's fans arranged it to promote youth policies," adding, "We sincerely apologize to those who were made uncomfortable because we failed to carefully check and review."
She added, "We have politely asked the YouTuber to delete the video," and, "We will make the election committee more vigilant to prevent a recurrence."
