Song Eon-seog, co-chairperson of the People Power Party's election committee, criticized President Lee Jae-myung's regional itinerary, saying, "He is engaging in an overt government-powered election, an intervention in the election."
Chairperson Song attended the "President Lee Jae-myung's government-powered election emergency countermeasures meeting" held at the People Power Party's Daegu Metropolitan Chapter in Suseong-gu, Daegu, on the 15th and said, "Now, with fewer than 20 days left before the election, President Lee is going around markets nationwide as if on a 'tour,' campaigning."
Recently, President Lee visited Namok Maseong Market in Ulsan and Moran Market in Seongnam. On this day, he also visited areas in Gunwi County, Daegu, and Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang, the planned site for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integrated new airport, inspected the site, and helped with rice planting in a rural area.
Chairperson Song said, "The day before yesterday it was Ulsan, yesterday he suddenly visited Seongnam's market, and today he did a sudden rice-planting performance in Gunwi," adding, "It is clearly electioneering, by anyone's view."
He added, "The president's duty of political neutrality during elections is a grave matter that was treated as a ground for impeachment at the time of former President Roh Moo-hyun's impeachment motion," and said, "Even if the president personally cannot be indicted, Blue House officials who planned the election-intervention moves could be subject to indictment."
Chairperson Song said, "Since electioneering has taken place again today in Gunwi and Daegu, we will begin reviewing legal action."
