Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor who completed registration for the June 3 local elections, met former lawmaker Yoo Seong-min. Right after registering his candidacy, Oh held a news conference in front of Seoul City Hall, saying it is urgent to join forces with everyone who shares the same purpose, and then met with Yoo.
On the 14th, Oh held a "June 3 local elections appeal to the public" news conference in front of Seoul City Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul. Oh said, "This Seoul mayoral election will be a critical turning point that determines Seoul's coordinates," adding, "We stand at a crossroads between escaping a real estate hell or not, and whether to go to 'Park Won-soon season 2' or to the future."
He went on, "Over the past five years, as we corrected the harms such as the cancellation of 389 redevelopment zones during Mayor Park Won-soon's tenure, we realized Seoul must never go back to the past," adding, "In Chong Won-o's camp, the key figures who built Park Won-soon's Seoul have regrouped by only changing their titles, and this must be stopped to protect citizens' lives and Seoul's future."
He continued, "Having completed my candidate registration today, I stand here with a deep sense of responsibility and urgency to make an appeal," adding, "In a tilted situation where voters showing support for the ruling party outnumber citizens who say they want to keep the administration in check, it is urgent to join forces with those who share the same purpose."
He added, "In that sense, I earnestly asked senior Yoo Seong-min for support, and I was told he would gladly help," and said, "From today for the time being, I will strive to join hands and minds with all factions except the Democratic Party."
Immediately after the news conference, Oh moved to his campaign office in Gwancheol-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and met with former lawmaker Yoo.
Meeting Oh, former lawmaker Yoo said, "I believe it is truly important for Oh Se-hoon to protect Seoul for the sake of Seoul citizens, for the party, and for conservatives," adding, "Under the Lee Jae-myung administration, the real estate problem is very serious, and even after the election there will be many major changes related to real estate taxes and loan regulations."
He added, "If the Democratic Party candidate becomes Seoul mayor, the dwellings issue will become very serious," and said, "Hearing Oh's pledge for a rapid supply of dwellings, I expect it will significantly ease Seoul's severe jeonse and monthly rent shortage."
Yoo also said Oh would play a role in keeping the government and the ruling party in check.
He said, "The Seoul mayor is a member of the Cabinet," adding, "The Democratic Party is talking about things like a national dividend, and after winning too much in elections it is beginning to show its true colors, but if Mayor Oh Se-hoon enters the Cabinet, he will be fully able to play a checking role."
Yoo plans to begin stumping to support Oh after official campaigning starts on the 21st of this month.
