Yoo Jeong-bok, the People Power Party candidate for Incheon mayor, held a press conference in Michuhol District, Incheon, on the 14th and said, "Absolutely no to developing Incheon in the Daejang-dong style."
On the 14th, Yoo Jeong-bok, the People Power Party candidate for Incheon mayor, along with county heads and district office chief candidates, formed the "12-member Incheon defense task force" and urged Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Incheon mayor, to apologize for and withdraw his Daejang-dong remarks.
On the 11th, in an interview with local media discussing private investment attraction and development methods, Park said, "I highly value the public-interest intent of the 'Daejang-dong model,' a representative combined development method."
After criticism poured in over his interview remarks, Park wrote on Facebook, "Will I turn Incheon into Daejang-dong? Yes. I will." Park said, "If it is a large-scale development project in which corporations earn legitimate profits and we can return hundreds of billions of won in excess profits to residents, I would do it as much as needed."
In response, Yoo said, "Candidate Park Chan-dae praised the Daejang-dong development method and publicly stated his intention to apply it to Incheon's development," adding, "This is an outrageous remark that should not come from a candidate who says he will be responsible for Incheon's future."
Yoo went on, "The Daejang-dong development project was one in which certain private operators pocketed profits amounting to hundreds of billions of won, while the public interest that Seongnam citizens rightfully should have enjoyed was thoroughly ignored," adding, "What did Seongnam citizens receive after the Daejang-dong development?"
That day, Yoo signed four joint pledges: not permitting even 1 mm of Daejang-dong-style preferential development; full transparent disclosure of all procedures in the development process; safeguarding the rights and interests of original residents and new residents; and promoting development that prioritizes the interests of Incheon citizens.
