President Lee Jae-myung will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the 13th. Ahead of the U.S.-China summit on the 14th, the two sides plan to hold preliminary consultations in Seoul, with Bessent arriving a day early to pay a courtesy call on Lee.
Kang Yu-jung, Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson, said on the 12th that "President Lee is scheduled to receive a courtesy call from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent tomorrow." Earlier, Bessent also said on X on the 10th (local time), "On Wednesday (the 13th), I plan to stop by Seoul," adding it would be "a visit for talks with China's Vice Premier He Lifeng."
The upcoming U.S.-China summit comes as cease-fire talks between the United States and Iran have collapsed multiple times and foreign media report that President Donald Trump is considering "resuming military operations." It was originally slated for late March but was postponed once. At the U.S.-China meeting, the two sides are expected to exchange views on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and discuss China's potential role, given its leverage in negotiations with Iran.
