Kim Young-hoon, Minister of Employment and Labor (MOEL), said regarding the general strike by the Samsung Electronics labor union set for the 21st, "I hope labor and management both approach mediation with a sense of social responsibility."
The Minister said at the "policy review meeting and emergency employment and labor situation review meeting" held on the 11th, "We welcome the initiation of post-mediation by the National Labor Relations Commission with the consent of Samsung Electronics labor and management," adding this.
Post-mediation is a procedure in which mediation, once broken down, is resumed with the consent of both labor and management. The mediator is the National Labor Relations Commission, and post-mediation for the Samsung Electronics union will be conducted over two days on the 11th–12th.
The Minister said, "Samsung Electronics should engage in mediation in a way befitting the name 'Another family, Samsung,'" adding, "Just as it built a world-class company with technology, it should also set a new example in labor-management relations."
He added, "I hope this issue becomes an opportunity for active social discussion on desirable performance sharing and distribution by corporations so that labor-management relations can move beyond the pursuit of their respective interests to build a win-win relationship."
