The People Power Party sharply criticized the government and ruling camp over the attack on the Korean vessel "HMM Namuho" in the Strait of Hormuz.
People Power Party National Defense Committee Commissioners held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 11th and said, "Korea was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "The property and lives of the people of Korea were attacked."
They said, "We define the current situation as effectively a wartime situation, and although it is much too late, we urge our government to immediately embark on a strong response," and criticized, "The Ministry of National Defense sat on its hands with no response even though a grave situation occurred in which the lives and property of the people of Korea were struck in a conflict zone, and it did not respond at all to our National Defense Committee members' requests for a briefing."
They also raised the level of criticism toward the presidential office. The People Power Party said, "The presidential office released right after the incident that 'there were no human casualties,' but yesterday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released that one crew member suffered a neck fracture. The presidential office's release was a lie," adding, "The government's duty is to protect the lives of the people. What is the reason it concealed this grave fact of injury to our people and only released it yesterday?"
It continued, "The government must state precisely when and by whom the Namuho's CCTV footage was reviewed," adding, "It must also immediately state the reason it did not acknowledge the attack until now even after receiving the report."
The People Power Party also pressed for the reason our government described as "ship fire" and "unidentified flying object" what the president of our ally the United States confirmed as an attack. The People Power Party said, "It must identify without fail who ordered the use of deceptive expressions such as 'ship fire' and 'unidentified flying object' to mislead the public."
It continued, "In the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to the Namuho, there are 26 of our ships and about 160 of our people," adding, "In a situation where they could be attacked again at any moment, our National Defense Committee cannot just stand by and watch."
