The Democratic Party of Korea on the 11th held a nomination convention for the June 3 local elections in Seoul, saying, "We will win a landslide victory by earning voters' choice solely through competence and results," and noted, "We have a mission to support the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration."
That afternoon, the party held the Democratic Party Seoul nomination convention at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul. Party leader Jung Chung-rae and Democratic Party of Korea Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o attended.
Jung told the candidates, "Every candidate here stands with a historic mission to build a local government that works as well as President Lee Jae-myung."
Candidate Chong Won-o also emphasized that "the spirit of the times in this Seoul election is a change in competence." Chong said, "Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, has focused only on showcase administration such as the Hangang Bus, Audit Garden, and Seoullim, and citizens say their taxes are being wasted."
He specifically pointed to the housing and real estate issue. Chong said, "(Candidate Oh Se-hoon) has been Seoul mayor for five years and housing has become more difficult," adding, "Even though he pledged in the last election to supply 310,000 homes, he is just reheating the same plan."
He went on, "He only drew up plans and failed to carry them out," stressing, "Let's change out the competence of the local government and accomplish what we could not do."
Nominees attending the Seoul nomination convention repeatedly chanted the slogans "Seoul that works well!" "Seoul!"
Campaign co-chair Hwang Myung-seon said, "It has been less than a year since the people established the Lee Jae-myung people's government, and Seoul is returning to normal." Hwang added, "But our Seoul city government is still incompetent and has no plans," and pointed out, "We do not hold a majority of power in the (Seoul) local council."
Chairperson Hwang emphasized, "That is why, starting with our 'work master' (a new coinage meaning 'a person who works well'), candidate Chong Won-o, the 25 district mayors, city council members, and district council members must, with your victories, bring about national normalization."
In his speech, candidate Chong Won-o said, "Mayor Oh Se-hoon ran for Seoul mayor with 'rebuilding conservatism' as his goal," adding, "If this person becomes mayor, for four years he will square off against the president in the thick of political strife." He continued, raising his voice, "Only 9.3 million citizens will bear the responsibility and the damage."
