Support for President Lee Jae-myung's job performance was tallied at 59.7%. It stayed in the 50% range for a second straight week. Support for the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party also saw little change.
In a survey Realmeter conducted at the request of Energy Economics News of 2,007 people nationwide ages 18 and older from the 4th to the 8th, support for the president's job performance came in at 59.7%. It rose 0.2 percentage points from the previous week but fell short of reclaiming 60%. The president's support had fallen into the 50% range in the previous survey for the first time in eight weeks.
Negative assessments of the president's job performance were 35.7%, up 0.7 percentage points from the prior survey, and "don't know" was 4.6%.
Realmeter analyzed that "economic positives such as the KOSPI breaking through the 7,500 level and a record surplus in the current account drove gains," but added that "political turmoil, including conflict over the special counsel into the fabricated indictment and the failure of the constitutional amendment bill, offset the rise, resulting in only a slight uptick from last week."
Party support also was flat. In a party support survey of 1,006 people nationwide ages 18 and older on the 7th and 8th, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 48.7% and the People Power Party 30.9%. The Democratic Party rose 0.1 percentage points, and the People Power Party fell 0.7 percentage points.
The Reform Party was at 3.5%, the Rebuilding Korea Party at 3.2%, and The Progressive Party at 2.2%.
Both surveys were conducted using an automated wireless response method. For the presidential job approval survey, the margin of error was ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 4.2%. For the party support survey, the margin of error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 3.7%.
