Oh Se-hoon's People Power Party Seoul mayoral campaign targeted Democratic Party of Korea Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o, saying on the 9th that "Chong's 'villa remarks' raise suspicions that he is trying to revive the urban regeneration projects of the late Mayor Park Won-soon's administration."
Park Yong-chan, Spokesperson for Oh Se-hoon's campaign committee, issued a commentary titled "Chong Won-o's villa remarks are a signal flare for reviving urban regeneration" the same day, saying that "the suspicions were triggered by Chong's so-called 'villa remarks,'" and stated accordingly.
The remarks flagged by Oh's camp came at a "meeting of Seoul district mayoral candidates" held at Chong's campaign office on the 5th. Chong said, "(Oh) served as mayor for five years, so why didn't he prepare for the surge in jeonsei and wolsei prices?" and added, "Within two to three years, we can craft measures for jeonsei and wolsei and increase supply by using villas, officetels, and residential lodging facilities."
Park, the Spokesperson, said, "Building villa towns was a core project of the signature 'urban regeneration' program under the late Mayor Park Won-soon's administration," adding, "At the time, Park lifted redevelopment designations en masse at 389 sites and pushed urban regeneration, and as a result, villa towns sprang up across central Seoul."
He went on, "The result was devastating. The Moon Jae-in administration set it as one of its main state agendas and poured in 50 trillion won over five years," adding, "In 2014, Mayor Park designated Changsin–Sungin-dong in Seoul as the 'No. 1 urban regeneration district' and pumped in as much as 100 billion won, but the residential environment did not improve at all."
Park, the Spokesperson, also said, "What remained were only empty museums that no one visits and murals on walls," adding, "The very person who led the urban regeneration project that ended in such a massive failure is Chong. I ask Chong whether he will attempt Park Won-soon's urban regeneration yet again."
