A total of 2,944,073 people nationwide applied for high oil price damage support funds. That is 91.2% of the 3,227,785 eligible recipients, with payouts tallied at 1.6728 trillion won.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 8th announced the status of applications for the high oil price damage support funds. Applications for the high oil price damage support funds closed as of 6 p.m. that day.
By payment method, credit and debit cards drew the most applications at 1,163,943 people. They were followed by prepaid cards at 1,027,742, local love gift certificates in mobile and card types at 672,275, and paper type at 80,113.
By region, South Jeolla Province saw the most applications. South Jeolla's application rate was the highest at 93.6%. It was followed by Seoul and Jeju (92.9% each) and Busan (92.7%).
By contrast, the region with the lowest application rate was South Gyeongsang Province. The application rate there was 87.8%. Gangwon (89.3%) and Gyeonggi (89.6%) followed.
The first round of payments targeted basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families. The amounts are 550,000 won per person for basic livelihood security recipients and 450,000 won per person for near-poverty groups and single-parent families.
The government plans to resume payments to those who did not apply starting on the 18th, when the second round begins.
