Attention had focused on whether Kim Jong-un, the North Korean State Affairs Commission chairperson, would attend Russia's Victory Day, but no related movements have been detected so far.
The Ministry of Unification said on the 8th, regarding the possibility of the Chairperson's visit to Russia, "As of now, there are no confirmed movements ahead of Victory Day on the 9th." It also noted that there have been no signs of senior North Korean officials heading to Russia.
A North Korean delegation was not included on the list of attendees for the Victory Day events released by the Russian side. The Kremlin said some figures from friendly countries are expected to attend, but made no mention of North Korea.
The Chairperson has visited Russia's Far East and held talks with President Vladimir Putin, but has never visited Moscow.
Earlier, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership on the occasion of the 2024 summit, and since then North Korea has continued military support related to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Because of this, there was speculation that the Chairperson might visit Moscow for this year's Victory Day, but it has not materialized so far.
Meanwhile, Russia plans to scale down the military parade ahead of the Victory Day event on the 9th at Red Square, citing safety concerns and other factors.
