Minister Cho Hyun of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the ASEAN Committee in Seoul and called for a joint response to the issue of Southeast Asia "scam centers" while discussing ways to strengthen Korea-ASEAN cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 7th, the Minister held a dinner meeting that day at the ministerial residence with the ASEAN Committee in Seoul and Secretary-General Kim Jae-shin of the Korea-ASEAN Centre to discuss ways to expand cooperation between the two sides.
The Minister assessed that as people-to-people and economic exchanges between Korea and ASEAN have recently expanded, leader-level visits are also continuing actively. The explanation was that following the visits to Korea by the leaders of Vietnam and Laos last year, summit diplomacy between Korea and major ASEAN countries is continuing this year.
The Minister went on to emphasize the will to advance the Korea-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and noted the need to expand economic and people-to-people exchanges. In particular, the Minister shared the status of efforts to revise the Korea-ASEAN free trade agreement and to simplify visa procedures.
The Minister called for stronger cooperation to respond to the spread of "scam center" crimes in Southeast Asia and asked for the interest and support of ASEAN countries.
