The People Power Party on the 7th aimed at the so-called "prosecutorial dismissal special counsel bill" led by the Democratic Party of Korea, sharply criticizing it as "the last tollgate on the road to Lee Jae-myung's dictatorship."
Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok raised his voice at a field Supreme Council meeting held that morning in front of the Cheong Wa Dae Sarangchae, saying, "Can't you hear the sound of the Republic of Korea collapsing?" and, "Right now, President Lee Jae-myung sees neither the economy, people's livelihoods, diplomacy, nor security. All that is on his mind is not going to jail."
Jang said, "Illegal remittances to North Korea, perjury over the Daejang-dong corruption scandal, misuse of corporate credit cards, election law violations—no matter how much prosecutors and the judiciary are crushed and intimidated, these are clear and shameless crimes that cannot possibly avoid imprisonment," adding, "So they want to appoint a special prosecutor to seize the indictment held by a judge so that President Lee can tear it up with his own hands."
He continued, "The moment the criminal Lee Jae-myung tears up the indictment with his own hands, an all-powerful dictatorship will begin in earnest," warning, "The economy and people's livelihoods will collapse, the South Korea-U.S. alliance will be smashed, and security will crumble. It will become the Democratic People's Republic of South Joseon, where President Lee and the pro-Lee collaborators monopolize wealth and power."
He went on to stress, "This local election is a vote to block President Lee's dictatorship and bring down the dictatorial regime," adding, "We must gather the people's anger to judge the dictator Lee Jae-myung and return the Republic of Korea to a free democratic republic."
Floor leader Song Eon-seog said, "President Lee and the Democratic Party are attempting an unprecedented destruction of the rule of law. The prosecutorial dismissal special counsel is not a mere special counsel bill," adding, "It is a self-issued indulgence bill unprecedented in constitutional history. President Lee is not a king, and being president does not put him above the law."
Song, the floor leader, said, "If the president is as clean as he says, there is no reason to avoid trial. He can prove his innocence through evidence and witnesses," adding, "Now that a movement of public resistance is rising, they intend to get through the election right in front of them and then push ahead after the vote with a full-scale project to launder the president's crimes. It is a crafty, Machiavellian ploy that treats the people with contempt."
He added, "Is this really a normal ruling force?" and, "Even a president must be punished if a crime is committed. The People Power Party will never stand by and watch."
