It was found that more than about 23,000 residents took the Hangang Bus during the five-day holiday from Labor Day to Children's Day.
According to the election committee for Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral candidate, on the 6th, the number of Hangang Bus passengers from the 1st to the 5th was 23,443, with a daily average of 4,688. That is about an 84% increase from the April daily average of 2,550 passengers.
In particular, the number of passengers on the 1st was 5,584, the highest daily figure since full service began in September last year. The cumulative number of passengers who have used the Hangang Bus so far is more than about 267,000.
As ridership increased, the Seoul city government has improved Hangang Bus amenities. Recently, the city added Han River view rest areas near the Mangwon and Ttukseom piers.
Going forward, "Riverview Gardens" will be installed at six piers—Yeouido, Ttukseom, Jamsil, Apgujeong, Oksu, and Magok—and along sections connected to the Seoul Forest Garden Expo. Riverview Garden is a rest area created to match the characteristics of parks near Hangang Bus piers.
According to the election committee, Hangang Bus operating hours will also be extended into the evening.
Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party said, "Through the May golden holiday, we confirmed that the Hangang Bus is taking hold as a leisure option in residents' daily lives," adding, "Residents will continue to enjoy the Han River safely and comfortably through the Hangang Bus."
