The Blue House convened a review meeting in connection with the South Korean ship accident in the Strait of Hormuz.
Kang Yu-jung, the Blue House senior spokesperson, said that from 12:30 p.m. on the 5th, a meeting chaired by Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik was underway to discuss response measures related to the ship fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting reportedly included the head of the Blue House Crisis Management Center, the maritime affairs and fisheries secretary, the foreign affairs and national security secretary, and the director of the National Situation Room. The Blue House is expected to review the cause of the accident and discuss future management measures.
Earlier, at 8:40 p.m. on the 4th (Korea time), an explosion and fire occurred on the cargo ship (HMM NAMU) of the South Korean shipping company HMM in waters near the United Arab Emirates (UAE) within the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel is expected to complete accident response and move to the nearby Port of Dubai.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all 24 crew members, including six South Korean nationals aboard the vessel where the explosion and fire occurred, were confirmed to be unharmed.
