People Power Party candidate Park Wan-su for South Gyeongsang governor on the 5th announced five key youth pledges, including developing youth-only financial products.
Park said in a news release that "last year, the net outflow of young people from South Gyeongsang was 10,112, about half the 20,324 at the start of the eighth popularly elected term," adding, "the starting point of these pledges is to continue this trend and make South Gyeongsang a place where young people want to stay and live."
Park pledged to introduce the "Gyeongnam Youth Pension," which would supplement income gaps by developing dedicated financial products for young people ages 18 to 39 who earn income in the province and have annual income of 26 million won or less.
He said public rental townhouses equipped with fitness facilities and book cafés would be built in places such as the Changwon National Industrial Complex and the Jinju Sangpyeong Industrial Complex.
He also said cultural and tourism programs would be run at locations young people want, creating "a South Gyeongsang-style Seongsu" across the province. At each industrial complex hub, 24-hour shared workplace childcare centers would be installed to ease the childcare burden on manufacturing workers who often work shifts.
He also unveiled a plan to host in South Gyeongsang cultural events that young people can enjoy, like the Busan Rock Festival and the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival.
Park said, "Narrowing economic gaps through the youth pension, improving the quality of life through high-quality housing and culture, and creating an environment where children can be entrusted at any time are the very things that will lead young people to choose South Gyeongsang," adding, "we will surely achieve a South Gyeongsang to which young people return."
