People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on the 4th, "This local election is an election to weed out criminals."
At a supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Jang said, "Seven of the 16 Democratic Party of Korea metropolitan office candidates have criminal records."
Mentioning Chong Won-o, the Seoul mayoral candidate with a criminal record, Kim Kyeong-soo, the South Gyeongsang governor candidate, Woo Sang-ho, the Gangwon governor candidate, Kim Boo-kyum, the Daegu mayoral candidate, and Chun Jae-soo, the Busan mayoral candidate, Jang said, "Candidate Chong has two prior convictions for beating police and citizens, and candidate Kim Kyeong-soo has four prior convictions, from violating the National Security Act to the Druking case," adding, "Starting with the president, who has four prior convictions including drunk driving, there is not much to say."
He went on, "It is baffling whether the Democratic Party is friendly to criminals," adding, "When Democratic Party Ansan mayoral candidate Cheon Young-mi's drunk driving record was pointed out, she brazenly demanded an apology, saying, 'President Lee Jae-myung also has a drunk driving record, didn't you vote for him?'"
Jang stressed, "Why should our good citizens, who have lived their whole lives abiding by the law, entrust local governance to such criminals?" adding, "I hope voters will judge the brazen Democratic Party with their good votes."
Regarding the "fabricated indictment (prosecution cancellation) special counsel bill" proposed by the Democratic Party of Korea, he asked, "There is exactly one person on the Korean Peninsula who does not go to prison no matter what crime is committed: Kim Jong-un, the supreme dignity of North Korea," adding, "But now it seems one more will be added. Does President Lee want to become supreme dignity No. 2?"
He added, "A special counsel to erase President Lee's crimes is an unconstitutional full-package piled on unconstitutionality," pointing out, "To erase the crimes of one person, Lee Jae-myung, they will mobilize 350 personnel and spend hundreds of billions of won in taxpayers' money."
He said, "When rule by man overwhelms rule of law, the values of freedom and equality collapse and the country becomes an animal farm," adding, "Will we live as citizens of the Republic of Korea under liberal democracy, or become slaves in Lee Jae-myung's animal farm? The choice is up to the people on June 3."
