Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, said on the 4th, "I proposed a one-on-one debate to Chong Won-o of the Democratic Party of Korea, but he says he will absolutely not do it."
Oh answered this way on YTN Radio "Jang Sung-chul's News Myeongdang" when asked, "If you make the finals, it seems you will debate candidate Chong Won-o."
Oh said, "I am making various efforts to have ample opportunities for debate," adding, "For example, there is the Kwanhun debate. Let's have a head-to-head debate; we need to sit together and debate to tell who is better."
He added, "(Chong Won-o's side) says they will absolutely not do it."
Oh also said, "The Kwanhun debate contacted me yesterday. They will invite us separately," adding, "If it goes like this, will it be a debate? It's a news conference."
He continued, "For the final debate, if they say that all parties that received more than a certain percent in the previous election can participate, then it won't be a one-on-one debate," adding, "If the Reform Party and the Justice Party also come out, the focus inevitably blurs, so I sincerely hope a real debate-like debate can take place."
Ho Jun-seok, spokesperson for Oh Se-hoon's election committee, also issued a commentary that day, saying, "Politics is about doing what the people want," and, "What Seoul citizens want to see right now is a fierce policy debate between Oh Se-hoon and Chong Won-o."
He went on, "Strangely, candidate Chong Won-o is adamantly avoiding a one-on-one debate," adding, "The Kwanhun Club has proposed a one-on-one debate several times, and even though Oh Se-hoon gladly accepted, Chong Won-o has not responded, so it has not materialized. It's really frustrating."
Ho also said, "I really want to see the true colors of the self-proclaimed "get-things-done administrator" at the debate," adding, "You say you ran district affairs so well and will steadily proceed with the supply of dwellings, so during a one-on-one debate, please present a concrete vision, and shouldn't it also be vetted for whether it is truly realistic?"
He added, "Why refuse the chance to publicly criticize and debate the "Oh Se-hoon city administration" that candidate Chong criticizes so much?" and, "The Chong Won-o camp seems to think the more the candidate is exposed to the public, the more the bubble deflates. If that's not the case, please agree to a one-on-one debate."
