On the 3rd, Park Deok-heum, the People Power Party nomination management committee chairperson, said, "The leadership will not even consider acts that run counter to what the public and party members think."
That day on Facebook, Chairperson Park said accordingly, "The People Power Party leadership has fairness and common sense. We are closely examining the situation, considering who is the candidate with competitiveness in the general election, who will defeat the Democratic Party of Korea candidate and win, and beyond that, even the potential impact on the entire election."
Park added, "It breaks my heart to hear talk about things that have not even happened. If by any chance the nomination results come out differently from what the public and our party expect, talk about it then," and said, "Beware of 'infighting,' and let us all 'form a single united front.'"
Earlier, when Jeong Jin-seok, who served as Yoon Suk-yeol's last chief of staff, applied for the nomination in the by-election for Gongju, Buyeo and Cheongyang in South Chungcheong, concerns arose inside and outside the party that the local elections could turn into a "Yoon again" judgment structure.
Lee Jin-sook, former Korea Communications Commission (KCC) chairperson, classified as pro-Yoon, was singly nominated in Dalseong County, Daegu; Kim Tae-gyu, former KCC vice chairperson, in Ulsan Nam-gap; and former lawmaker Lee Yong in the Hanam-gap by-election.
The Democratic Party of Korea launched an offensive, calling to judge the "Yoon again" faction. Jeong, the former vice speaker, was investigated on suspicion of destroying evidence at the presidential office related to the martial law emergency.
However, within the party, some say Jeong, the former vice speaker, dissuaded the former President Yoon from declaring martial law and is competitive given that he served five terms in the constituency.
Accordingly, the party ethics committee planned to hold a closed meeting at 5 p.m. the previous day at the Yeouido headquarters to discuss the former vice speaker Jeong's nomination application and reinstatement application, but suddenly postponed the meeting.
