Reform Party Gyeonggi governor candidate Cho Eung-cheon on the 3rd proposed a "joint meeting to criticize the special prosecutor bill for dismissal of indictments" to candidates for metropolitan mayors in the Seoul metropolitan area.
That morning at the National Assembly, Cho held an emergency press conference and said, "If the Democratic Party of Korea ultimately pushes through the special counsel for dismissal of indictments, the constitutional system of the rule of law and separation of powers will be shaken to its core, and Korea's criminal justice order will be hollowed out," and stated accordingly.
Aiming at President Lee Jae-myung, Cho said, "There is exactly one person in Korea who would be comfortable because their own crime disappears through dismissal of the indictment," and "For that one person, 50 million citizens are on the brink, facing a crisis in which they are reduced to subjects of an absolute monarchy."
He continued, "First, let's bring together the candidates for metropolitan mayors in the Seoul metropolitan area who agree that this is an emergency situation," and said, "I propose an emergency joint meeting of metropolitan mayoral candidates in the Seoul metropolitan area to stop a judicial rebellion. Let's meet as soon as possible at 3 p.m. today, at any convenient location."
Toward Democratic Party candidate for Gyeonggi governor Choo Mi-ae, he said, "As the most recent chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, you pushed through all sorts of strange special prosecutor bills and led the build-up to create a monster special prosecutor bill," and demanded, "Don't hide—come out and, with the conscience of a legal professional, state a clear position on whether this bill has problems or not."
He also said to the People Power Party, "We await a response from candidates for metropolitan mayors in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Oh Se-hoon, the Seoul mayoral candidate and a legal professional."
The Reform Party added that it has booked a cafe near the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu for the day and will wait until the afternoon for responses from each party.
