The Ministry of Economy and Finance said on the 3rd that the World Bank will appoint Min Jina (photo) as Director General for market and counterparty risk effective on the 1st of next month. With this, the number of Korean senior officials at the World Bank has increased to two: Vice President for Digital and AI Kim Sang-bu and Director General Min.
Director General Min graduated from the Department of Mathematics at Ewha Womans University and earned a master's degree in business administration from the Graduate School of International Management at Yonsei University. Min then served as an executive director in credit risk management for Goldman Sachs Asia and, in 2017, worked as a senior credit risk Director at the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) of the World Bank. Since 2021, Min has served as head of credit risk for MIGA's state-owned enterprises and reinsurance divisions.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this is the fourth time a Korean has been appointed to a Director General-level post at the World Bank. The most recent official to serve was Chu Heung-sik, former chief investment adviser (CIA) at the World Bank, whose term ended in Feb. last year. The ministry said, "We will continue to actively support our people's entry into international financial institutions."
