The Democratic Party of Korea has brought in former Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Vice Minister Kim Sung-beom. Kim, the former vice minister, is expected to receive a strategic nomination in Seogwipo, which had been the constituency of gubernatorial candidate Wi Seongon of Jeju.
The Democratic Party held a talent recruitment ceremony at the National Assembly on the morning of the 30th and officially announced the former vice minister as the "third recruited hire." Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "(The former vice minister) is like a hometown love gift certificate," adding, "Born and raised in Seogwipo, one can feel a great love for Seogwipo and Jeju, and as a top expert in oceans and fisheries, a great love for oceans and fisheries."
Jung went on to say, "After joining the government, (Kim) never once left the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF)," adding, "So as vice minister of the ministry, (Kim) was able to carry out the Busan transfer swiftly and like lightning."
Jung also said, "Although (Kim) suffered disadvantages under the previous administration, with the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration, (Kim) was tapped as vice minister and was very active as a working-level official realizing the dream of oceans and fisheries."
The former vice minister said, "As vice minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), I oversaw the Busan transfer and, 20 days after appointment, secured a new government building; I reviewed housing and education issues one by one to secure reserve funds, while negotiating with the Busan city government to prepare an exceptional support package," adding, "I completed the mission in six months."
The former vice minister then said, "Now I stand with the intention to use the national governance experience and strength I have built up over 32 years for my hometown," adding, "With the (MOF transfer) expertise, I will work for Seogwipo."
Shortly after the recruitment announcement, the former vice minister met with reporters and, regarding the issue of Jeju's second airport, said, "I agree on the need to expand facilities, but I am also aware of various concerns," adding, "I will fully gather local opinions and present specific measures in the community."
