At the opening ceremony for the campaign office of Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party of Korea's Daegu mayoral candidate, more than 30 ruling party lawmakers, including leader Jung Chung-rae, turned out in force. Kim welcomed them as "a solid support team that will back Mayor Kim Boo-kyum in the National Assembly."
Kim's campaign held the opening ceremony for the campaign office at "Kim Boo-kyum Hope Camp," located at Duryu Intersection in Dalseo District, Daegu, on the afternoon of the 26th. At the ceremony, more than 55 current and former lawmakers attended, including Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae.
In addition to leader Jung, National Assembly Vice Speaker Lee Hak-young, party Policy Committee Chair Han Jeong-ae, former floor leader Han Byung-do, Rep. Cho Jeong-sik, Rep. Park Gee-won, and other party leadership and senior members turned out in force. Former lawmakers Kwon No-gap, Yoo In-tae, and Kim Du-kwan also appeared.
Former President Moon Jae-in also sent a video message cheering on Kim.
Kim said, "These people did not come to congratulate me, but are here for Daegu," adding, "In response to this enormous demand for change, Daegu mayoral candidate Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party, and all citizens will unite to achieve Daegu's great industrial transition, administrative integration, and the start of the new airport."
Earlier, in a Facebook post, Kim wrote, "This mayoral election offers two choices. Will we continue to wither in drought, or will we regain vitality by receiving a sweet rain after the drought?" He added, "Daegu is now a tree short of water. First, we must draw water from somewhere. If I become mayor, I will quench the thirst with that and, fundamentally, dig a deep well."
He went on, "Please make use of me, Kim Boo-kyum, who has served in the ruling Democratic Party and even as prime minister," adding, "The seed you sowed in Suseong-gap 10 years ago has ripened into fruit. Harvest the fruit and quench your thirst. Here is me, Kim Boo-kyum, ready to devote even my last drop of sweat to Daegu."
