At the opening of the campaign office for Daegu mayoral candidate Kim Boo-kyum of the Democratic Party of Korea, more than 30 ruling party lawmakers, including party leader Jung Chung-rae, turned out in force. Kim welcomed them, saying they were "a solid support team that will back Mayor Kim Boo-kyum in the National Assembly."
Kim's campaign held an opening ceremony for the campaign office at "Kim Boo-kyum Hope Camp," located at Duryu Intersection in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, on the afternoon of the 26th. More than 55 current and former lawmakers attended the event, including Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae.
In addition to Jung, National Assembly Vice Speaker Lee Hak-young, party Policy Committee Chair Han Jeong-ae, former floor leader Han Byung-do, lawmaker Cho Jeong-sik, lawmaker Park Ji-won and other members of the party leadership and senior figures attended in large numbers. Former lawmakers Kwon No-gap, Yoo In-tae and Kim Du-kwan also made appearances.
Former President Moon Jae-in also sent a video message to cheer on Kim.
Kim said, "These people are not here to congratulate me; they are here for Daegu," adding, "In response to this overwhelming demand for change, Daegu mayoral candidate Kim Boo-kyum, the Democratic Party, and all citizens will unite to achieve an industrial great transformation for Daegu, administrative integration, and the start of the new airport."
Earlier, in a Facebook post, Kim stressed, "There are two choices in this mayoral election: Will we continue to wither in drought, or will we regain vitality with a welcome rain after the drought?" adding, "Daegu is now a tree lacking water. First we have to draw in water from somewhere. If I become mayor, we will quench our thirst with that and, fundamentally, I will dig a deep well."
He added, "Please make use of me, Kim Boo-kyum, who has served in the ruling Democratic Party and even as prime minister," and "The seed you sowed in Suseong-gap 10 years ago has ripened into fruit. Harvest the fruit and quench your thirst. Here is me, Kim Boo-kyum, ready to devote even the last drop of sweat for Daegu."
