The People Power Party on the 22nd urged President Lee Jae-myung to "immediately stop actions that undermine the solid South Korea-U.S. alliance with shallow sophistry and dismiss Minister Chung Dong-young of the Ministry of Unification at once."
Chief deputy Spokesperson Choi Su-jin said in a commentary that "the Lee Jae-myung administration's 'self-inflicted security fiasco' has led to a devastating international embarrassment," and stated accordingly.
Choi said, "Minister Chung carelessly disclosed North Korea's sensitive nuclear facilities, which South Korea and U.S. authorities have never officially confirmed, leading to a situation in which U.S. 'information sharing on North Korea' was partially restricted," adding, "To cover this up, the Minister dragged in the American think tank CSIS, but received only a public rebuke from Senior Vice President Victor Cha, the party concerned, who said, 'I have never written such a report.'"
Choi continued, "The outrageous remarks by the accident-prone Minister are shocking, but what is truly appalling is the bizarre attitude of the head of state who should be managing the crisis," criticizing that "as commander in chief, President Lee not only failed to apologize for the restriction on information about North Korea but also hid behind the Minister and belittled the ally's reasonable concerns on social media as a 'preposterous matter.'"
Choi said, "Minister Chung's security risk is habitual, and there is only one reason this perilous loose talk keeps recurring: no matter what outrageous words are spewed, President Lee blindly hands out indulgences," adding, "This 'deranged doubles team' is blinding the eyes and ears of South Korea's security."
