The cutoff for academic records for 2026 medical school freshmen rose 0.2 grade points from the previous year, data showed.
On the 19th, Jongro Academy analyzed the 2026 medical school academic-record cutoff scores released by nine of 39 medical schools—Catholic University, Ulsan University, Kyungpook National University, Chonnam National University, Konyang University, Hallym University, Eulji University, Gyeongsang National University, and Kosin University—and found the average minimum passing grade to be 1.22. That is 0.19 grade points higher than the previous year. The shift is attributed to more top-tier students choosing medical schools.
By individual school, the average academic record of final enrollees at Ulsan University's medical school for 2026 is 1.15, 0.08 grade points higher than 2025 (1.23). Kyungpook National University's medical school disclosed the cutoff for the top 70%, which is 1.35 for 2026, 0.16 grade points higher than 2025 (1.51).
Meanwhile, the intake quota across the 39 medical schools fell by about 1,500 from the previous year. The number of applicants for early admission was 51,194, down by more than 20,000 from the previous year (72,354).
