The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 17th that it has recruited attorney Jeon Tae-jin as its candidate for the by-election in the Ulsan Nam-gap constituency. The leadership plans to give Jeon a strategic nomination in Ulsan Nam-gu-gap, which was left vacant after lawmaker Kim Sang-uk of the same party ran for Ulsan mayor.
Jung Chung-rae said at the National Assembly that day at the first talent recruitment ceremony, "In Ulsan, people want a change to a younger generation, with a new breeze and a new generation," adding, "Attorney Jeon Tae-jin will join that tide."
Jung said, "I believe the very fact that Attorney Jeon has joined our Democratic Party proves a new blue breeze in Ulsan," adding, "Following Ulsan mayoral candidate Kim Sang-uk and city party chair Kim Tae-seon, Attorney Jeon Tae-jin is an important figure who will make the young, blue breeze of our Democratic Party in the Ulsan region billow."
Jeon said, "When I began my first duties as an attorney, the first case I appeared in was that of former President Roh Moo-hyun, and the second was former President Moon Jae-in, who was then the senior presidential secretary for civil affairs." He added, "Carrying on their intentions has brought me to this place, and like the title of former President Moon's book, I wonder if this too is all fate."
He added, "Based on the experience and abilities I have built up through my activities, I will work to serve as a bridge connecting the central government and Ulsan to represent and realize the will of Ulsan citizens so that we can bring tangible changes to everyday life."
Lawmaker Kim Young-jin, the Democratic Party's head of talent recruitment, said, "Because we have to hold a by-election, we recruited (Attorney Jeon) with a view to giving a strategic nomination in that area (Ulsan)."
