The Democratic Party of Korea elected Rep. Min Hyeong-bae as its candidate for the integrated special mayor of South Jeolla-Gwangju.
So Byung-hoon, Democratic Party Central Party Election Management Chairperson, said on the 14th at the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, that Rep. Min was elected in the runoff vote for the integrated special mayor candidate of South Jeolla-Gwangju. So said, "We will not disclose the vote share by candidate."
The Democratic Party held the runoff by combining 50% of votes from dues-paying party members and 50% of a public opinion poll. In the primary, Rep. Min and the South Jeolla governor advanced to the runoff and competed, but in the end, Rep. Min secured the first bid for the integrated special mayor of South Jeolla-Gwangju.
Min is expected to face a multi-candidate race in the general election against the People Power Party, the Progressive Party, the Justice Party, and others. Within the People Power Party, a contest is underway between candidates Ahn Tae-uk and Lee Jung-hyun.
