The People Power Party elected incumbent Gov. Lee Cheol-woo as its candidate for the June 3 local election for North Gyeongsang governor.
The People Power Party's Central Nomination Management Committee announced on the 14th that candidate Lee Cheol-woo was elected as the party's candidate for North Gyeongsang governor. The People Power Party held the primary on the 12th and 13th with a 50% share for the electoral college vote and 50% for a public opinion poll.
The People Power Party's primary for North Gyeongsang governor proceeded with all candidates except Gov. Lee Cheol-woo competing in a first-round primary, after which Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won was set as the challenger, and then Gov. Lee and Kim held the main primary. With Gov. Lee defeating Supreme Council member Kim in the main primary, he is set to run for a third term as governor.
The Democratic Party confirmed Oh Jung-gi as its candidate for North Gyeongsang governor. Gov. Lee and Oh previously faced off once in the 2018 local election. At the time, Gov. Lee defeated Oh and won.
