In 2024, average sales at restaurant franchise outlets such as Korean food, coffee, pizza, and fried chicken increased. In contrast, bars saw sales decline.
According to the "2025 franchise business status" that the Korea Fair Trade Commission released on the 12th, average sales at restaurant franchise outlets in 2024 totaled about 351 million won, up 6.1% from the previous year (331 million won).
By sector, pizza franchise outlets posted a marked sales rise. Average sales increased 8.7% from a year earlier. However, the number of outlets fell 1.3% from the previous year.
Coffee and Korean food franchise outlets also showed clear growth, each posting an 8.3% average sales growth rate. The number of outlets likewise rose 4% and 6.1%, respectively, indicating an expanding market.
By contrast, bar franchise outlets saw the number of stores increase 4.6%, while average sales decreased 2.4%.
Average sales at service-industry franchise outlets were 196 million won, up 5.7% from the previous year (186 million won).
Retail and wholesale franchise outlets averaged 570 million won, up 2.5% from the previous year (560 million won).
By detailed sector, average sales at health foods franchise outlets rose 6.5%, showing strong growth, while convenience stores increased only 1.8%. Cosmetics (-12.6%) and agricultural and marine products (-13.3%) franchise outlets saw sales decline.
The No. 1 brands by average sales per outlet by sector were "Shabu All Day" (3.61 billion won) in restaurants, "Chahong Room" (1.82 billion won) in services, and "GS25" (640 million won) in retail and wholesale. However, brands that posted high sales with only a small number of outlets were excluded from the rankings.
Meanwhile, average sales across all franchise outlets in 2024 were about 370 million won, up 4.3% from the previous year (350 million won). Considering that average sales for small business owners the same year fell to 197 million won, franchise outlet sales appear to have been relatively stable.
