Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, visited the National March 15 Democratic Cemetery in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, on the 8th and told reporters, "I will probably announce next week where I will run in the by-election," adding, "Since I am traveling nationwide to visit areas where our party has basic-level local government chief candidates, I plan to announce my constituency after that."
Cho said, "Since the party's launch, I have not engaged in politics confined to a particular region," and added, "Media outlets and commentators are drawing various scenarios about where I will run, but I have no intention of judging based on such criteria."
Cho also said, "Every region is a tough battleground." Cho said, "We are a friendly party to the Democratic Party, but because we are a different party, situations may arise in which we must compete not only with the People Power Party but also with Democratic Party candidates," adding, "From that perspective, I regard every region as a tough battleground and am preparing accordingly."
Cho said, "I don't think I can tolerate a scenario in which a People Power Party candidate wins and the People Power Party gains even a single seat," adding, "If such a candidate emerges, I will go after that person or work to make sure they lose."
Cho also clarified his position on an electoral alliance with the Democratic Party. He said, "Because the goal of this election is to hold the People Power Party to account, we will compete freely in Honam, where the probability of a People Power Party candidate winning converges to zero, and we will form alliances in non-Honam regions where the People Power Party could win," adding, "I believe the method of forming alliances should be delegated to each provincial and metropolitan party chapter."
