Choo Mi-ae, who was finalized as the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Gyeonggi governor, said on Apr. 8, "I am someone who has sufficiently proven myself through results and ability."
Choo held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning and stated accordingly, "As in the previous primary, I won with a majority of the votes, and I was told that in this main primary the support base clearly rallied more."
In response to a question suggesting there are concerns about limited appeal because of a "reformist image," Choo said, "Rather than there being a separate centrist bloc, because politics and administration spend taxpayers' money, they must deliver results and provide a sense of efficacy," adding, "My principle is to prove everything thoroughly through results and to keep my promises."
Choo added, "If people in the middle think differently, it means they do not trust me or think I lack ability," and said, "For each distinctive region, it is extremely important in an election to identify and support strong pledges, and we must think about how to demonstrate political efficacy and trust."
Asked whether, if she wins the general election, she has any women's pledges as the "first female head of a metropolitan government," Choo said, "We will build province-level integrated services related to support for women and refine an emergency care system so that working women can commute with lighter hearts, free from the pain of childcare," adding, "Since I mentioned a 'blast furnace election committee,' I will ask the incumbent Democratic Party Gyeonggi governor for the specifics of the process."
