The Blue House said it hopes the swift mutual confirmation of intent between the two Koreas this time will contribute to peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, after North Korea positively assessed President Lee Jae-myung's expression of regret over the infiltration by a North Korean unmanned aerial vehicle.
A Blue House official said in a media notice on the 6th that the government will continue its efforts toward peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
Earlier, in a Cabinet meeting chaired at the Blue House on the morning of the same day, Lee said an unthinkable civilian unmanned aerial vehicle incident occurred under this administration, and expressed regret to the North that irresponsible and reckless actions by some led to unnecessary military tensions. This is the first time Lee has expressed regret over the North Korean unmanned aerial vehicle incident.
In response, Director General Kim Yo-jong of the (North) Korean Workers Party Central Committee said in a Korea Central News Agency statement that it showed the attitude of an honest and bold person as head of state. Director General Kim said our government assesses it as very fortunate and a wise measure for his own sake that the president directly expressed regret and mentioned steps to prevent a recurrence.
