Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is running in the Daegu mayoral election, shared an afterstory after making his cell phone number public to citizens.
Kim said on the 1st on Facebook, "As I have done since my first term, I made my phone number public, and my phone really lit up starting that evening."
He added, "When I made the number public, I asked in advance, 'Please don't call just to bet on whether I really pick up or not. Please call only when you truly have something to say for Daegu,'" noting, "But sure enough, more than half the calls were like, 'Oh, you really answer. See, you do pick up. Okay, take care,' and then they hung up."
Kim also said, "These bet calls will probably last about a week. I know from experience."
Still, he said, "It is rewarding," explaining, "From college students who say they want to volunteer to middle-aged and older people who compile a lifetime of accumulated knowledge into long, long messages on plans for Daegu's development, there are many."
Kim also made public his resolution to run for Daegu mayor. He said, "It's an election being held after six years. The 2020 election defeat hurt," adding, "I thought I did all I could, but fate was harsh."
He continued, "But I intend to rise again from where I fell. In the end, it's because of Daegu," adding, "My sense of responsibility and confidence to bring change to Daegu is growing stronger."
Kim made his phone number public at a press conference in Daegu on the 30th announcing his candidacy.
