Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province to lend support to candidate Woo Sang-ho in the June 3 local elections.
On the 1st, Leader Jung held an on-site supreme council meeting on people's livelihoods in Cheorwon County and visited the venue marking the 95th anniversary of elevating Cheorwon-eup. At the site that day was also Woo Sang-ho, who was nominated as the Democratic Party candidate for Gangwon governor.
Gangwon Province is one of the places with strong conservative support. The incumbent governor is Kim Jin-tae of the People Power Party. The Democratic Party has set retaking Gangwon Province as one of its key goals in this local election.
At the supreme council meeting, Leader Jung stressed multiple times that the party would spare no active support to ensure Woo's victory. Jung said, "I have walked together with Woo Sang-ho for 20 to 30 years, striving for Korea's democracy," adding, "The party will actively back the path Woo Sang-ho takes."
Leader Jung specifically mentioned the Pocheon–Cheorwon Expressway. He said, "The Pocheon–Cheorwon Expressway is a long-cherished wish of residents and a pledge by President Lee Jae-myung," adding, "The party will actively support it so it can be realized swiftly." He also said the project to extend the Jungang Expressway connecting Chuncheon and Cheorwon would proceed without a hitch.
Leader Jung said, "Yesterday we passed the third amendment to the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Act," explaining, "The third amendment also includes various special provisions for Gangwon Province."
Candidate Woo Sang-ho responded, "It is the first time ever that a party leadership has held a supreme council meeting in Cheorwon, and it feels like an expression of the will to push through good policies for the people of Gangwon."
Candidate Woo said, "Gangwon Province recorded negative growth in 2025 following 2024," adding, "This is proof that those responsible for Gangwon's governance have been economically incompetent. If I become governor, I will immediately launch an emergency economic plan to create a chance for a leap that can dramatically revive Gangwon's economy."
