The People Power Party said on the 1st that it will appoint four-term senior lawmaker Park Deok-heum as the new nomination management chairperson.
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok met with reporters at the National Assembly on the morning of the day after an awards ceremony for a policy contest and said, "As a senior lawmaker with multiple terms, we intend to bring in Rep. Park, who is highly trusted in the floor and within the party, as the nomination management chairperson," and stated accordingly.
Leader Jang said, "Chairperson Lee Jung-hyun has made various efforts and has nearly finished the nomination work for the local elections," adding, "There are areas with injunctions, Gyeonggi Province, and some basic-level local governments where candidate applications are not fully finished yet, but the new nomination committee can sufficiently wrap it up."
He added, "We plan to proceed with the nomination work by forming a separate nomination committee for finishing the local election nominations and for managing the nominations for the ensuing by-elections," and said, "We intend to form it completely anew."
Earlier on the previous day, former nomination management chairperson Lee Jung-hyun said the local election nominations were nearly finished, stepped down from the chairperson post, and the nomination commissioners also resigned en masse.
