Shin Hyun-song, the Bank of Korea governor nominee, arrived on the 30th and said, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility after being nominated as governor in a grave situation."
Shin, who had been staying in Zurich, Switzerland, said this as he arrived through Terminal 1 of Incheon International Airport that day. However, when asked about matters such as the Korean economy, Shin said, "I will explain in detail tomorrow," declining to elaborate.
Immediately after being nominated as a governor candidate on the 22nd, Shin also said, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility about leading currency policy at such a grave time as now."
Shin is a leading scholar in financial stability who has served as a professor at the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics, a professor at Princeton University, a member of the Financial Advisory Roundtable at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and a resident scholar at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Amid heightened uncertainty in the global economy due to the Middle East situation, Shin is seen as the right person to achieve both price stability and economic growth.
Starting on the 31st, Shin plans to report to the office of the hearing preparation team set up near Seoul City Hall to prepare for the National Assembly confirmation hearing.
