On the 29th, Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, sent a message of support to former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, who decided to run for Daegu mayor in the June 3 local elections, saying, "Be sure to win and come back."
On Facebook that day, Leader Jung said, "I was always sorry and grateful as I made repeated earnest requests," and stated accordingly.
Leader Jung, referring to the schedule for former Prime Minister Kim's candidacy announcement set for the 30th, said, "A country where if it is beans in Gwangju, it is beans in Daegu. I think of Roh Moo-hyun's spirit that called for breaking regionalism and national unity."
The phrase "a country where if it is beans in Gwangju, it is beans in Daegu" was used by the late Roh Moo-hyun, a former president, in past speeches to emphasize overcoming regionalism. This is interpreted as stressing that former Prime Minister Kim's move to accept the party's request and run in Daegu, a tough district for the Democratic Party, is in line with the political philosophy of former President Roh.
Former Prime Minister Kim plans to make his official candidacy announcement at the National Assembly on the morning of the 30th and then visit 2.28 Memorial Central Park in Daegu in the afternoon to announce his run before local voters.
